POV-Ray 3.6.1 (Build 197)

Requires at least Mac OS 9.2 or at least Mac OS X 10.2.8. Using Mac OS 9.2.2 is strongly recommended. For Mac OS CarbonLib 1.6 is required. POV-Ray 3.6 is compressed using StuffIt 5.0.

Note that we no longer support 68K based Macintosh computers. POV-Ray 3.6 requires a Power Macintosh. A Power Macintosh is any iMac, iBook, Mac G3, Mac G4, Cube, any older Mac with a four digit model number (i.e. 5200, 6300, 7200, 8100, 9600) and any third party computer running Mac OS 9.2 or later.

Note that POV-Ray 3.6.1 will likely run on any Mac OS 9.0.4 or later as well, but as we cannot test on such an old system and thus it is unsupported!

You need at least StuffIt Expander 5.0 to unpack these archives. We strongly recomment using StuffIt Expander 5.1 (which works much better with non-US Mac OS versions).

Please be patient, it may take a few seconds until the download starts! Repeated clicking will not make the download start sooner - to the contrary, it will make it take longer!
Download POV-Ray 3.6.1 (Build 197) for Mac OS 9.2 and later (9.1 MB)

This next archive is not needed to run the software, but is useful for the programmers out there who want to look under the hood...

How to report bugs and problems

If you find a bug or other problem please let us know so we can fix it. To submit a bug report, please use our online form. Please provide as much information as possible on how to reproduce your problem, but do not send us large attachments of scenes or other files without contacting us first. Also, please note that we may not be able to respond to all bug reports immediatelly. We will let you know if there is a workaround or we will just fix it in the next version.

Tools and Libraries

Some tools and libraries are hosted on this site because the original creators of them ran out of space on their own pages. The files are not supported by the POV-Team. If you have questions you should contact the author of the file. The contact information is included within the individual archives.

MacSPD

SPD stands for "Standard Procedural Database", and is a suite of applications that can automatically create complex and interesting scene files for many different ray tracers. Some of the output formats include DXF, QuickDraw3D/3DMF, VRML 2, POV-Ray, RTrace,Renderman RIB, etc. There is more information available about the MacSPD prot.

POV-Utilities 1.2

The ancient utilities have been made available here, in case you want to make shells, coils, Connect-The-Dots, Lissajous, Swoop, or convert RAW, DXF, or POV-Ray 1.0 files to POV-Ray 2.0 files. Note that there is a bug in the DXF conversion utility, and it tends to drop some triangle facets.

MacDEM2POV

DEM files (topographic data files) can be converted to POV-Ray with this simple Mac utility, supplied by Russell Towle. It converts 7.5 minute U.S.G.S. quadrangles to 24-bit Targa files, for use in the POV-Ray height_field function. It is a quick Mac port of a UNIX/DOS utility and is under active development. He has ambitious schemes to refine this program and welcome help from Mac programmers experienced in the C language. Send comments or suggestions to Russell Towle.

Uniform Polyhedra

Uniform polyhedra are bounded by regular polygons, and possess symmetries such that all vertices are equivalent.

There is a large selction as POV-Ray #include files prepared by Russell Towle available for download on the separate Uniform Polyhedra page.
